Remember the amazing things you once created with those colorful, connecting blocks? Or perhaps you were the kid taking your family’s radio apart because you wanted to see how it worked.
The genius that flows from the minds of babes is astonishing. On Kid Inventors’ Day, observed annually on January 17, we celebrate the imaginative, crafty, inquisitive minds of kids.
Kids are responsible for the televisions we’re glued to, the popsicles we slurp, and the flippers we use when snorkeling. Benjamin Franklin invented those flippers when he was only 12 years old, and it is his birthday on which we have chosen to celebrate some amazing kids.
Kids are also credited with the invention of a DNA screening method for early cancer detection, a fire prevention device for clothes dryers and an infrared camera that provides vision through dense smoke for firefighters, .
Celebrate Kid Inventors’ Day by encouraging them to create. For computer enthusiasts – a video game. Pet lovers – a robotic poop scoop. Adult logic and inhibition don’t stifle a child’s mind. The sky is the limit.
Support and encouragement are keys to success. So invest in the materials that are necessary and bring your child’s ideas to life. When a project is completed, spread the word. If its popularity takes off like the television, you can cross getting a third mortgage and two more jobs, to pay for her college education, off your list.
