Taking your morning coffee on the deck or patio would be a good start to celebrating Eat Outside Day, observed annually on August 31.
As the days of summer wind down, sipping and nibbling while enjoying fresh air and natural light start to dwindle. This would be the perfect day to savor meals in outdoor ambience.
Dining outside conjures a number of settings, including some in which you will surely interact with nature:
- Parks offer lush green backdrops for spreading out large blankets, and a welcoming committee of hungry ants will be delighted to dine with you;
- Clam bakes are fitting ways to bid adieu to the shores, but be on the lookout for seagulls. These coastal party-crashers are not shy about helping themselves;
- Tote a moveable feast along to the boat for lunch on the lake. The friendly ducks will glide along hoping to find a kindhearted diner on board.
If breaking bread with nature’s creatures is not your idea of enjoying good food in good company, head out to your patio and fire up the grill. You will most likely be safe from ants, gulls and ducks, but your Labrador might hijack a burger.
Prefer leaving cooking to the professionals? Many neighborhood and upscale restaurants offer al fresco dining on rooftops, sidewalks and patios. Or, you can just sit outside at your local coffeehouse to enjoy espresso and people-watching.
Wherever you decide to wine and dine, Eat Outside Day is a delicious excuse to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the outdoors along with the flavors of your favorite foods.
