April 12 is Walk on Your Wild Side Day, a day to stop holding yourself back from whatever itch you’ve been longing to scratch.
You don’t have to be Lou Reed to let your inner wild side out. Luckily for those of us who are a little more strait-laced than the litany of characters Reed salutes in his classic song, this is the day to let it all hang out.
Whether it’s taking a sky dive, striking a mannequin pose outside a department store window, dying your hair an outrageous color or even shaving it all off, this is the day to do that thing you’ve been putting off because it seems too difficult, too daring or too unlike the you everyone expects you to be.
Remember, the best thing about the day is the “your” in its title. In other words, this is the day to think about satisfying your own inner wild spirit. To hell with what anyone else thinks because it just doesn’t matter.
Think you don’t have an inner wild side? Think again. Responsibilities and distractions force us to tamp our wild side so far down that we can no longer hear its voice. But if you listen closely, you’ll probably realize that the longing you once had to ‘do that thing’ never went away.
Unleashing your inner wild side isn’t limited to just one day. You can use today for long-term planning like that trip you always wanted to take or those scuba diving lessons you never got around to. You can even combine the two. Get a tattoo and sign up for ukulele lessons on the same day. After all, you’ve got nothing to lose but a lack of wildness in your life!
So go ahead! Get out there! Stir things up, make some noise, and Walk On Your Wild Side today!
