As the days of summer wind down, opportunities to sip and nibble while soaking in fresh air and natural light start to dwindle. You can celebrate Eat Outside Day, on August 31, by savoring your meals in outdoor ambience. Taking your morning coffee on the deck or patio would be a good start.
Dining outside conjures a number of settings, including some in which you will surely interact with nature:
Parks offer lush green backdrops for spreading out large picnic blankets, and a welcoming committee of hungry ants will be delighted to dine with you;
Clam bakes are fitting ways to bid adieu to the shores. Once seagulls are spotted, don’t leave appetizers unattended. These coastal party crashers aren’t shy about helping themselves;
Tote a moveable feast along to the boat for lunch on the lake. Geese and ducks will glide along hoping to find a kindhearted diner on board.
If breaking bread with nature’s creatures doesn’t sound very appealing, there are other options. Turn to your patio and fire up the grill. You will most likely be safe from ants, geese and gulls, but your Labrador may hijack a burger.
Prefer to leave cooking to the professionals? Many restaurants offer al fresco dining including sidewalk cafes and rooftop tables. Or, just sit outside at your local coffeehouse to enjoy espresso and people watching.
Wherever you decide to wine and dine, Eat Outside Day is a delicious excuse to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of nature along with the flavors of your favorite foods.
