Remember the amazing things you once created with colorful, connecting blocks? Or perhaps you were the kid taking your family’s radio apart because you wanted to see how it worked.
The genius that flows from the minds of babes is astonishing. Kid Inventors’ Day, observed annually on January 17, celebrates the imaginative, crafty, inquisitive minds of kids.
Children are responsible for the televisions we’re glued to, the popsicles we slurp, and the flippers we use when snorkeling. Benjamin Franklin invented those flippers when he was only 12 years old and it is his birthday on which we’ve chosen to celebrate these amazing kids.
Kids are also credited with the invention of a DNA screening method for early cancer detection, a fire prevention device for clothes dryers and an infrared camera that provides, for firefighters, vision through dense smoke.
Celebrate Kid Inventors’ Day by encouraging children to create something new. Computer enthusiasts, a video game. Pet lovers, a robotic poop scoop. Grown-up logic and inhibition don’t stifle a child’s mind. The sky’s the limit.
Support and encouragement are keys to success. Invest in the materials necessary to bring your child’s ideas to life and once completed, spread the word. If its popularity takes off like the television’s, you can cross getting two more jobs and a third mortgage, to pay for her college education, off your list.
