Imagine the sluggish feeling you get after having gained too much weight. Well, your computer is suffering from its own weight gain and it’s time to throw out the fat.
Clean Out Your Computer Day, celebrated annually on the second Monday in February, ask the question, “Is your computer lagging and dragging?”
In spring, we spruce up and air out our homes. Autumn cleanups begin as soon as trees shed their leaves. Students clean out their lockers at the close of the semester. Occasionally, we clean out our refrigerators.
If you don’t believe your computer is overweight, take a look at that folder of downloads. It’s cluttered with all the old videos Cousin Eddie has sent over the years. Keep the ones that left you falling off your chair with laughter, but those that barely warranted a chuckle should be tossed in the trash.
Next, open your email folders. Keep the important ones, like the latest contact info from your friend who changes addresses as frequently as underwear. You should also keep your grandmother’s blueberry pie recipe. The remaining 4200 can all be deposited into, you guessed it, the trash.
Tackle the photo folders next. No doubt your niece is adorable, but do you need 25 photos of her in the same pose and setting? Select the best two or three and dump the rest into, well, you know the drill by now.
Once cleanup is complete, your computer will run faster and more efficiently. Should I dare mention that you now have a vast amount of freed-up space? So, if you enjoyed this Clean Up Your Computer Day experience, you’ll get to do it all over again next year.
Oh, and don’t forget to delete the trash.
