We often take for granted the mail appearing in our box everyday. Although email has lightened the load, mail carriers continue to take to the streets in all kinds of weather. They slosh through snow, wade through water and walk like penguins over ice. February 4 is Thank A Mail Carrier Day.
Never mind the snow, rain and ice. What about impatient residents and pooches with poor manners? There are some residences that mail carriers would just as soon avoid. Because unrestrained dogs attempt tackles that rival those of the best quarterbacks, carriers must also exercise stealth, caution and speed.
Though we shouldn’t need to be reminded, Thank a Mail Carrier Day affords us the opportunity to acknowledge our carriers and to do something thoughtful. They deserve an act of kindness.
